iOS 16: How to Use Photo Cutout on iPhone

Photo Cutout is a new feature in iOS 15 that allows you to easily remove the background from a photo on your iPhone. Here’s how to use Photo Cutout on your iPhone running iOS 15:

  1. Open the Photos app on your iPhone and select the photo you want to edit.
  2. Tap the Edit button in the top right corner of the screen.
  3. Tap the three-dot icon in the top left corner of the screen and select “Markup”.
  4. In Markup, tap the Plus icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and select “Magnifier”.
  5. Move the magnifier over the edge of the object you want to cut out, and use your finger or Apple Pencil to trace the outline of the object.
  6. When you’ve traced the entire object, lift your finger or Apple Pencil to create a selection box around the object.
  7. Tap “Cutout” at the bottom of the screen to remove the background.
  8. If needed, use the “Restore” tool to add back any parts of the photo that were accidentally cut out.
  9. When you’re done, tap “Done” in the top left corner of the screen to save your changes.

Note: Photo Cutout works best with photos that have a clear distinction between the object you want to cut out and the background. If the object is too complex or the background is too busy, you may need to use a more advanced photo editing tool to achieve the desired effect.

How do you put a cutout on a picture?

If you want to put a cutout on a picture, you can follow these steps:

  1. Open your photo editing software or app, such as Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, or Canva.
  2. Import the photo you want to use as the background.
  3. Import the photo you want to use as the cutout, making sure it has a transparent background. If it doesn’t, you may need to use a tool like the Magic Wand or Lasso tool to remove the background.
  4. Place the cutout on top of the background photo and resize it as needed.
  5. Use a tool like the Eraser or Layer Mask to blend the edges of the cutout with the background, making it look more natural.
  6. Adjust the brightness, contrast, and other settings as needed to make the cutout look like it belongs in the photo.
  7. Save your edited photo as a new file.

Alternatively, some photo editing software and apps may have a specific tool or feature for adding cutouts to photos, which can make the process even easier. For example, in Photoshop, you can use the “Quick Selection” tool to select the object you want to cut out and then use the “Layer Mask” feature to remove the background.
