Microsoft began rolling out Windows 11 earlier this year with a preview of its flagship operating system. However, if you try to use the oldest version of the software on your existing computer, you may encounter some speed limitations due to the system requirements of the new operating system. In this article, we will try to teach you how to fix a computer not working after Windows 11 update.
If you tried to install Windows 11 Insider Preview or use the Microsoft PC Health Check app and were greeted with a “This PC can’t start Windows 11” error message, your system may not have two important security settings enabled: Secure Boot and TPM 2.0.
This document shares the basic steps to troubleshoot Windows Update for Windows 11. Most update issues are resolved by simply restarting your Windows 11 PC. Upgrading to Windows 11 is only possible if your PC meets the minimum hardware requirements.
Restart Windows Explorer
Right-click the Start button (or press Ctrl + Alt + Del) and select Task Manager.
Find the Windows Explorer process under the Processes tab. If it’s not listed under Applications, you should find it under Windows Processes; don’t forget to sort the list by name.
Right-click Windows Explorer and select End Task, although restarting should work as well.
To restart the task, go to File > Run New Task, type explorer.exe and click OK.
Windows 11 turns on and off instantly
If your computer starts up normally but shuts down immediately, it may be because something connected to the computer is causing it to shut itself down after startup. You can disconnect all devices (except mouse and keyboard) connected to your computer, including printers, external hard drives, webcams, scanners, etc. Then restart your computer to see if it can boot properly. In this case, reconnect one device at a time and restart Windows to get rid of the problematic device.
Viruses, malware, and other digital pests can cause your Windows computer to stop working properly. This includes important system processes such as Windows Update.
If you’re sure the problem isn’t with the antivirus program you’re using, use your antivirus or antimalware tool to scan your computer for infections. If your computer is infected with a virus or malware, you need to fix it before you try anything else.
In Windows 11, click Start, type Windows security, and then select the best search result. Next, go to Virus & threat protection > Quick scan. To run a full scan, go to Virus & threat protection > Scan options and select the type of scan you want to run.
To do this, go to Start > Settings > Windows Update and click the Check for updates button. Install available updates and restart your computer.
